Science: Chemistry- 4.2 Check and Reflect Pg. 171 Q: 1, 2, 3 a, 4

1. Ions are atoms that don't have the same number of protons as the number of electrons. In an ion electrons are lost or gained in order to gain a full valence shell.

2. Usually to identify an ion people would put a number and/or positive or negative sign in front of the symbol of the element that the element is based off.

3. a) The subscript is to understand what the charge is in the metal and the non-metal ions.

4. Metal Ion+Non-Metal Ion= Ionic Compound
